CHARLOTTE
I wake up the next morning feeling more relaxed and satisfied than I have in maybe my whole life. At some point, Wyatt and I moved our nocturnal activities into my bed. It wasnât easy being quiet. I happen to know thereâs at least one bite mark on his shoulder where I clamped down as my body was once again overwhelmed by the pleasure his touch gave me.
Not that he minded. âIâll wear that as a badge of honor,â heâd said before nestling his head between my thighs once again.
A fresh shiver of delight ripples through me as I stretch and find the opposite side of the bed empty. My eyes fly open, and itâs only then that I see how high the sun is up in the sky already. That doesnât necessarily mean anything. This time of year, itâs light more than itâs dark in Alaska. But still, Simon has had me up before dawn the whole time weâve been here.
Iâm wrapping myself in a robe when I hear the clatter of dishes and soft voices from the other main room. Opening the door, I pause at the entry taking in the view in front of me.
Simon is perched in a stool at the island drinking from a coffee mug. Heâs talking a mile a minute, recounting the story of how heâd learned to fish with some of his new friends the day before.
On the other side of the island, Wyatt nods along to the story. He has a dishtowel slung over one shoulder while he tends to a few pans on the stove. I sniff and catch the unmistakable smell of bacon crisping. Reaching for one pan, he lifts it and with a jerk of his wrist, a pancake flies up in the air and flips over. Simon applauds enthusiastically, and a grin plays on Wyattâs lips. Remembering what exactly he can do with those lips has me squeezing my thighs together, even as my heart melts at the scene playing out in front of me.
âNow let me show you what weâll do with this pancake,â Wyatt says. He settles the large flapjack on the plate and places two strips of bacon on top of it. Then, with a spatula, he scoops up two sunny side eggs. He slides the plate across the counter. âWhat do we have there?â
Simonâs eyes go wide. âItâs a smiley face.â
âThatâs right.â
âThe eyes are a little crooked.â
Wyatt arches an eyebrow. âNobodyâs perfect. But that doesnât make them any less good.â
He opens up the syrup and pours it over the top. âCan you cut that pancake yourself or should I help you?â
âI can do it by myself.â Simon grabs his fork and knife.
My breath catches as I watch him awkwardly cut the pancake into uneven bite-sized pieces. Wyatt watches closely, even as he starts another pancake. The whole scene looks like something out of a family sitcom.
Wyatt glances my way then, and my cheeks flush at being caught staring. He winks at me and my stomach somersaults.
